What is your background?
For the last 18 years I have been working with vulnerable young people to help them overcome barriers they face and to achieve their future aims and aspirations. I have worked with victims of child sexual exploitation and this experience led me to become an Education & Training Officer to raise awareness around spotting the signs of child sexual exploitation and domestic abuse within teenage intimate relationships.
I am hugely passionate about prevention and awareness training for children, teenagers, parents & carers and professionals alike! Positive emotional wellbeing and resilience is essential, to ensure our children and young people have healthy and happy futures.
What inspires you?
Having worked with some of society’s most vulnerable young people, I am in awe of their inner strength, determination and resilience despite some of the most awful things life has thrown at them. I am inspired by kindness, by people taking the time to help others, by friendship, by the beautiful natural world around me, by family, by friends and by the simplest pleasures in life like good food, amazing music, wonderful stories, love, laughter, dancing and smiles!
What is your perfect weekend?
It would be going to the seaside in Whitby with my family; walking along the beach, drawing mermaids in the sand, eating fish n’chips, having a lemon top ice cream, a beer in the local pub and then being cosy indoors watching a film altogether.
What is your favourite thing about Co:Create?
The energy and positivity that people have in the Team. Everyone is committed to what they believe in and want the best for the people they work with and support. Everybody smiles too!
What’s your favourite movie?
This is the hardest question of all as I love films. I would have to go for the original 1981 Clash of the Titans for its Greek legend, epic heroes and terrifying beasts and how it reminds me of being a child enthralled by the awe and majesty of storytelling. My son loves it now too…
