What is your background?
I started my career aged 8 when I wanted to raise money for Red Nose Day. I got lots of kids at school to write poems that I made into a booklet and sold to parents. All of my career since then (with the exception of a Saturday job selling cookies!) has been focused on helping and empowering others.
I’ve done a lot of work in child protection and children’s rights and I’ve done this wearing multiple different hats: as a local authority employee working in child protection, as a foster carer and as a UNICEF volunteer. The rest of my work has been focused around improving health and wellbeing services for people who access them. This has been through various angles, from implementing person centered policy to managing social inclusion programmes.
Now at SYHA, I lead our approach to co-design and improvement – a job I love more than I can explain!
What is your favourite thing about Co:Create?
The people we have involved, for sure! All the team that work on Co:Create, all the volunteers, all the commissioners, they are up for change, open to ideas and ready to crack on – I love that.
What’s your favourite movie?
Probably Miracle on 34th Street. It just fills me with joy!
What inspires you?
Everything! I’m inspired by so much, by people, by books, by nature. In particular, I find children so inspiring; as we get older we move away from childishness which I think is such a shame. I’m so compelled and inspired by what most children are; by curiosity, simplicity, malleability, creativity, bravery. I think it’s a shame that we only look to those older or more experienced than ourselves for inspiration, we can learn so much from 5 year olds!
What's your perfect weekend?
Anything outside with nice people and good food! Simple recipe for a perfect weekend for me!
