What's your background?

I started my career as a fundraiser, organising charity hitch-hikes around the UK and Eastern Europe for some wonderful charities. I liked the way that we split our fundraising totals between charities because I am passionate about so many things I couldn’t pick just one cause to support! I was also a campaigner for normalising mental health.

I now work in the Co-design and Improvement team, as a Volunteering Coordinator at South Yorkshire Housing Association. I love this role because I get to try out new ways of creating social cohesion through sharing food together.

Food is a big part of everyone’s lives; I’ve met a broad range of people through the work I do. From food sustainability academics, to food waste champions to the food bank volunteers and Michelin star chefs – I’ve learnt so much about one of life’s most basic needs.

What's your perfect weekend?

It would probably be taking a trip to the beautiful countryside in the Peak District, spending time with family and friends and having good food!

What inspires you?

I think it is important to have a varied set of inspirations; for a balanced view of the world. I find that books inspire me because of the unique way the author conveys thoughts and ideas one-on-one. I also have my favourite philosophers who continue to inspire me every time I read their work. I seem to pick out something new with every read.

I find that the older I get the more my mum inspires me. She has this quiet but strong moral compass that informs her to always do the right thing. I really appreciate the guidance this has given me; especially now that I work in co-production.

I also volunteer with asylum seekers and find their courage and strength inspiring. They aren’t afraid to show their vulnerabilities despite what they’ve experienced and are always hopeful for a better future.

What’s your favourite movie?

It’s probably A Muppet’s Christmas Carol. I watch it every year with family whilst putting up the Christmas decorations!

What is your favourite thing about Co:Create?

I love the way that every piece of work is different and everyone brings their enthusiasm and energy to getting results.
